Macy’s Christmas Windows 2013 Part II

Macy’s New York was the first store to introduce street display windows as an artform in the 1870s.  Today, they continue the tradition under the artful eye of Paul Olszewski, whose concept for this year’s windows combine old fashioned display art with touches of technology.  The story follows a little boy who learns qualities that dreams are made up of.   Within his dreams, the boy travels to a crystalline land to discover Sharing, Joy, Beauty, Magic to Believe.  The 6 windows, which took approximately 70 or so artisans, designers, musicians, technicians, engineers, copywriters and more, have digital backdrops which are interactive with viewer’s movements.  The music is an original store as well as the copywriting.  We have reproduced the text from the windows for your ease.  Photographs courtesy of Macy’s.
