The Best Part of World of Interiors July 2013: Illusions of Grandeur
The 10 page spread beautifully captures the apartment’s inviting warmth and character which was achieved through the use of several trompe-l’oeil frescoes based on ones that existed previously in the space. The scenes range from Antique ruins, to a striped-silk canopy, and colonnade and mouldings.
Robert, an architect and interior designer, met his life and business partner, Laura Sartori Rimini in Lorenzo Mongiardino’s office. Mongiardino, now past, was close friends of Robert’s parents and had designed their interior. Robert, like his mentor Mongiardino, believes in design with patina and character and embraces the past.
The apartment was simple from the outside but contained an elaborate interior courtyard that the couple restored, said to have been designed by Donato Bramante.
Peregalli and Rimini saved as much of the original structure and frescos throughout the dwelling as was possible.
