Continuing the millennial self-aggrandizement craze, the SELFIE has gone 3D. New York-based 3D print house giant Shapeways has made available nine locations in the Netherlands where customers can be three-dimensionally scanned and printed into small statuettes of themselves.
The 60-second scan can accommodate a single person or even an entire family and then uploaded to Shapeways for printing at a scale of your chosing. Perfect for an unusual family 3d photo or a wedding cake topper of bride and groom.
“Dutch people love technology and the latest gadgets,” says Pieter Limburg, head of business development and sales from Shapeways. “Therefore, the Netherlands is a great market to introduce our new service. In the future we want to offer our 3D selfie service in many more countries. We will continue to develop new technologies and services to offer our customers more and more possibilities with 3D printing. The new scanning service is an important step in this direction.”
Shapeways, founded in 2007 and funded by investors Union Square Ventures, Index Ventures, Lux Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, INKEF Capital, Hewlett Packard Ventures, and Presidio Ventures is the world’s largest 3D print house. The company offers 3D print-on-demand services including the ability to print in metals like platinum, gold, sterling silver, bronze, brass, steel, precious plated metal, plastics like strong & flexible plastic, frosted detail plastic, acrylic plastic, metallic plastic, elasto plastic, as well as porcelain, castable wax, multi-color sandstone and even glass. There are more than 50 material options in all.
