THE ART OF SHAYNE GRECO

I nspired by his coastal living, artist Shayne Greco creates fresh Palissy-like ceramic works for today.  The sea themed pieces are one-of-a-kind, hand-built and glazed with non-toxic/lead-free glazes.  “I take pride in the fact that we don’t use molds—everything is hand-built,” says Greco.  But, that does create a waiting list for the sought-after North Carolina-based artist’s pieces.

Many of the clay bodies are adorned with sea horses, octopi, small sea turtles, fish and various crustaceans, but there are also the occasional horse, horned stag, or elephant.  The work has a balance of carefully placed thin white glaze and unglazed areas imparting a sophisticated natural ocean sand effect.  The stoneware bodies include vases, candle holders, book ends, sinks, bowl, and more.

The New Jersey-born and raised Greco started his company in 2010 after graduating from the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design, GA.  Upon leaving school, he liked the South, but missed the coast and found himself settling in Wilmington, NC, a coastal town.

Prices range from $140-$1,800 for very large pieces.  Shayne’s work can be purchased directly from the artist: http://www.shaynegreco.com
