Episode 042: Thomas Hamel
Thomas Hamel is an award-winning interior designer and director of Thomas Hamel & Associates, which he established in 1990 in Sydney, Australia.
He has since become an important fixture on the Australian interior design scene as well as internationally with bespoke projects throughout Australia, as well as in USA, UK, Europe and Asia, garnering an impressive client list around the world. He is also the author of an acclaimed book, “Thomas Hamel, Residence”, and is well regarded as one of the design world’s leading tastemakers.
Born in Virginia, Thomas arrived in New York in the 80’s to study design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and continued his studies at the American College in London.
He honed his skills at the world-renowned Parish-Hadley design studio where he was inspired to develop the underlying current of timeless tradition in his design — keeping in touch with significant trends, but never depending on fluctuating fashions or gimmickry to make a mark.
Every project we undertake is transformed into an extraordinary journey by leveraging our extensive design experience and unique talent whilst listening and collaborating with our clients, culminating in the creation of the dream residence for our client. We make the dream a reality.
Aside from undertaking numerous residential projects in Sydney, Melbourne and around the globe, Thomas’ current bespoke projects include the launch of a custom-designed furniture range known as the Hamel + Farrell for Jean de Merry range, now available in Australia through Thomas Hamel & Associates and worldwide through Jean de Merry.
