Promoting Inspiring Design of All Eras online and on TV

Episode 006: Rachel Laxer

March 6, 2016

Rachel Laxer is a dynamic interior designer with a distinct global and artistic sensibility that rises above trends and customary design concepts. With an international lifestyle and viewpoint that spans Europe, Asia and the United States, she creates extraordinary interiors marked by meticulous bespoke design details, rare furnishings, functional art and a signature style that is luxurious, practical and unexpected.

Rachel’s unique background informs her design work every day. She began her career as a commodities trader and then became a successful emerging markets trader at the firms of investment legends George Soros and Michael Steinhardt. After relocating to Tokyo, Rachel became enamored with Japanese architecture and followed an undeniable passion for design inspired by the Japanese aesthetic. She studied privately with an art historian and architect in Japan, and was then quickly hired in London by celebrated designer Kelly Hoppen who valued her “East meets West” approach and exceptional international eye and sourcing abilities.

Rachel’s own design talents flourished and she eventually took on the opportunity to design her first project: a 14,000 SF Ski Chalet project located in the French Alps. In 2007 she founded RLI Interiors based on the principle of “relaxed elegance,” melding the chic and cosmopolitan with the pragmatic. Since then, she has worked with international clients from all walks of life to include professional athletes, sports team owners, financiers, entrepreneurs, internet executives, lawyers and artists. With her successful history in the financial industry, she has an exceptional appreciation of the bottom line and diligently balances luxury, value and budgets.

Rachel Laxer has an undergraduate degree in Political Science and History from Washington University, and an M.B.A Degree in Finance and International Business from New York University. She is a qualified member of the British Institute of Interior Design and the American Society of Interior Designers. She was recently recognized by the prestigious Andrew Martin Review Volume 15 and was published in Interiors Magazine, Contemporary Living in the Mountains and Timeless Architecture and Interiors.

She currently divides her time between New York and London, where she lives with her husband and their two daughters. She finds design inspiration in everyday objects and experiences, and strives to create interiors that have sustainable value and everlasting beauty.
