Episode 005: Andres Alsina

Andrés Alsina, author of the books “Andrés Alsina más allá del diseño”, “Transición” and “El París de Regina”, lives in France in an unique and exceptional place: The “Hotel du Garde Meuble” in Versailles. In this magical location it is possible to see him enjoy his daily walk to the Grand Trianon, work on his first novel or travel through Europe searching for antiques and new tendencies.

Andres Alsina’s two room apartment in Versailles, similar to the one belonging to Yves Saint Laurent’s muse Loulou de la Falaise, has received praise from the international media. Andrés spends his time teaching seminars in his home country, Chile and conducting thematic tours throughout Versailles and the Loire Valley.

The hotel’s Furniture Repository is a mansion located in Versailles. It was built between 1780 and 1783 to house the furniture guard of Versailles and the apartments of the Intendant of the Crown.

In 1774, the land was given by Monsieur, brother of King Louis XVI, to Thierry de Ville d’Avray, Commissioner-General of the King’s House and Head of the Crown Furniture Repository. He offered the grounds for the construction of a building to house the Garde-Meuble. Work began in 1780 and the hotel’s Furniture Repository was completed in 1783. It also had the advantage of using the covered corridor connecting the castle to the Pompadour hotel, located next door.

In 1789, the Abbe Sieyes lived in this mansion and today, Andres is an occupant.
